Give Your Workout Diet a Makeover

If you’re starting a new fitness routine, or revamping an existing one, figuring out the right diet to support it can be difficult. With so much advice out there about nutrition, deciding what we should eat can sometimes feel intimidating.

However, getting the right nutrition to fuel your workout is simpler than you might think. The key is to focus on eating high-quality, nutrient-rich foods and getting plenty of water.

Here are some key foods that can help power your fitness routine:

Lean Protein

Eating protein doesn’t just help your muscles recover, but it also helps you build more muscle. You’ll want to look for lean sources of protein, so you aren’t consuming a lot of added fat.

Protein can be found in a surprising assortment of foods, including chicken breasts, cooked beans, and eggs. Add a grilled chicken breast or a sliced hard-boiled egg to a salad or wrap for a quick and delicious protein-packed meal that you can enjoy on the go.

Healthy Fats

Foods that are rich in healthy fats often also provide vitamins and minerals. The right fats help maintain stable blood glucose and insulin levels, so you are less likely to experience dips and spikes in your blood sugar.

Try adding foods such as almonds, peanut butter, and avocados, which provide healthy fats as well as plenty of nutrients, to your diet. You can also eat fatty fish such as salmon for a great combination of protein and healthy fats.

Quality Carbohydrates

The right carbohydrates can provide fuel for your workout, and help you recover afterward. However, the quality of the carbohydrates we consume is really important.

High-quality carbohydrates can give you an energy boost, but are also rich in nutrients. Whole grains are a prime example of a quality carbohydrate.

Replace white rice in your favourite recipes with brown rice or quinoa for a simple, healthier swap.

Proper Hydration

Water helps maintain body temperature and keeps us hydrated. It’s crucial that you drink plenty of water not just during and after your workout, but throughout the day.

Remember to drink water with each meal, and also make sure you are well-hydrated before your workout. Keep a water bottle with you whenever possible so that you always have some within reach!

Remember to always focus on the quality and quantity of your food. Even if you aren’t following a specific diet, eating the right foods in the right portions can help you stay on-track to reach your fitness goals.

It’s good to be reminded about our workout diet. To be honest, I’m neither a meat nor a bean lover and very often exclude them from my meals, and I know protein is important. Thank you for this lovely post. #BeInspired
