When it comes to family fitness, I believe it’s always great to try new things and to be encouraging our little ones to keep fit and healthy from a very young age.
I have said it here on this blog many times before, that leading by an example is the best way to do so and am so pleased both my girls see me and their dad as inspiring and follow in our fitness footsteps.
As a kid I remember watching my dad playing tennis with my uncle when on holidays, and also lots of matches on TV as my dad was a huge tennis loves.
Thanks to him I came across the world-known Wimbledon, and still have attending one of the games on my “to do” list as have not managed to see any live yet.
When we lived with my husband in Sydney, we used to play tennis at least 3 times a week. I was a beginner, but it did not stop me from enjoying this white sport so much. I took a few lessons, and absolutely loved hitting the ball and running along the court.

Then we moved back to London ( more than 10 years ago), and one of the first things we did, was to look for some tennis courts. We managed to play a few times. Unfortunately since becoming full-time parents and with no babysitters, we sadly stopped playing tennis, which is a shame as we both really enjoyed it.
Not long ago our 9-year-old daughter Isabelle told me they started playing tennis at school during their PE lessons and she was very enthusiastic about it. She had a great feedback from her coach, and apparently was one of the best in the class.
This made me realise we need to go back into playing tennis, and when else would be a better time than now during the Great British Tennis Weekend (Saturday 16th July and Sunday 17th July)?
To celebrate this great event, there are FREE tennis fun activities that families can take advantage of all across the UK!
Book some fitness-oriented sessions at your local tennis club now!
It’s fun, it’s family-oriented and it’s completely FREE!
FREE Local Tennis Club Activities
I have checked my local tennis club, and they are inviting families to an open day and offering free tennis sessions for kids aged from 3+ and adult classes, including cardio tennis. Other fun activities for all the family including ball machine, fastest serve competition, bouncy castle etc and a BBQ.
Tots Tennis
I can imagine this will be perfect for our 4-year-old Olivia who has never played tennis and who needs to improve her balance, co-ordination, and ball skills.
Mini Tennis
Suitable for children between 3 and 10 years old, with smaller courts, nets and rackets and lower bouncing balls. This offers the perfect introduction to the sport, with all the fun and energy of the real thing.
Junior
No matter what your ability you’ll have fun on court with of junior players your age. Coaches will be on hand to offer tips to help your game and advice on how you can continue to play.
Adult Coaching
Try our adult coaching taster session. Ideal for people new to the sport or who haven’t picked up a racket in a long time. You can borrow our rackets if you don’t have your own, just come prepared to hit a few balls and have some fun.
Cardio Tennis
I am very tempted by the Cardio Tennis which is supposed to be a fun, sociable group fitness class set on a tennis court. Supported by motivating music and qualified instructors, you’ll get to hit lots of tennis balls during your class and have a great cardio workout at the same time. This sounds like a kind of workout I would really enjoy!
By taking part in any of these free activities not only you can introduce your little ones to a great fitness activity, you can also enjoy a great family day out!
Rackets and balls will be provided, so no need to buy anything yet!
Let’s just hope the weather is on our site!

Thank you, cannot wait to go back to playing!
Love the sound of Cardio Tennis. Must check out and see if there is somewhere near me that offers it.
It does sound very tempting, doesn’t it?
It’s such a fab idea, I can’t wait to take part.
Me too, just hope the weather is kind to us!
That’s great that your daughter has done it at primary school – I think every child should have a go! Can’t wait to take my girls along to this 🙂
I know, such a fab opportunity, isn’t it?
It’s always great when sports can be passed down through examples. It sounds like you Dad set you up to love tennis! x
He really did Donna. Miss playing it now, and cannot wait for our sessions with my girls soon!
I’d imagine a lovely climate would make tennis even more addictive than it is over here!
Yeah, the weather here can really put people off keeping fit, but not me! 😉
You must try their ballots. This is how we get the central court tickets. Otherwise it will be just original tickets. You should watch it live. It is fun!
Thanks for the tip, will do!
Cardio Tennis sounds like fun! We are all signed up for #GBTW

Absolutely Nadine! Cannot wait for the open day to check it out!
