As a regular reader of Fitness 4 Mamas, you know that I often blog about different ways how to keep fit. This is vital when you want to stay healthy. Working out is very important but not the only way how to protect your health, and live a longer, healthier and happier life.
Today I would like to mention a few other factors I consider essential when looking after my and my family’s health.
Get Enough Sleep
Many people underestimate the power of sleep and think that it’s only for babies and little kids. We have to remember that our bodies need sleep to rest, recover and gain the energy back to function properly. It’s not a waste of time. If you don’t let your body to rest enough, it will not work as it should and it could have a negative impact on your life.
I love to sleep and despite being 43-years-old, most of the time I sleep for 8.5 hours. When I train for a marathon, I can tell my body really appreciates this and if it asks for even more sleep, I don’t hesitate and sleep for even longer.
Avoid Excessive Drinking of Alcohol
I am not a teetotaler and actually admire people who are. I have always enjoyed a glass of wine or two, and have recently decided to monitor how much I drink. Do you know what the limit for men and women in the UK is? It used to be 21 units, but it has been recently updated to 14 units per week.
There is a clever Drinkaware app which tracks how much you consume on a daily/weekly/monthly basis and reminds you when you reach the recommended limit. Seeing the results can help you cut down and introduce more drink-free days!
No Smoking
Luckily the days when smoking was cool are long gone. More and more people understand this and realise how dangerous this is to your health.
I love the fact it is actually getting harder and harder to find where to smoke, and believe that this very nasty habit will completely disappear soon. Are you with me on this?
Protect from Sun
In my twenties, I lived in sunny Sydney. As I loved sunbathing and getting super brown, I used to spend nearly every day after work or college on a beach. I was silly and only used very low UV sunscreen factor. I was not educated about the damage the sun can have on my skin, and have developed quite a few sunspots as a result.
As a mum, I have always made sure that I would not make the same mistake with my kids who have always been highly protected. Some of these include – not exposing my babies to direct sunshine, staying in shade, 50+ sunscreen factor, sunhats, sunglasses and avoiding the hottest periods of the day by the beach.
Both my daughters are well aware they always need to have sunscreen on, and I find it sad that some of their friends do not know these things.
Eat Right & Drink Plenty of Water
The last point is probably the most obvious. Our body is our temple. What we put into our body is what it will use to function. If you don’t provide good quality food and enough water, then your body cannot work as it should. It’s as simple as that.
I love gadgets and have recently come across a device that helps with testing food and water. It’s the SOEKS Ecovisor F4. This is 4-in-1 food (vegetables & meat) nitrates tester + water quality/hardness tester + electromagnetic fields detector + dosimeter (radiation detector).
SOEKS ECOVISOR F4: PORTABLE 4-IN-1 DOSIMETER & RADIATION DETECTOR
Measurement of background radiation level – alerts about high radiation background and dose in objects, water, environment. Radiation is tasteless, has no smell or color and can be extremely dangerous.
It’s naturally occurring everywhere. On the surface, they pose little threat – but when you consume acidic food and drink from them, they leach radioactive chemicals, which end up in your body.
Measurement of nitrates content in fruits and vegetables (nitrate tester) – Detects harmful nitrates in hundreds of fruits, vegetables, and meats. Excess of nitrates in fresh vegetables, fruits and meats is harmful, especially for small children and elder people.
From the menu you select the food. Then insert the probe and press OK! In a few seconds, your screen will turn green, yellow or red. And data will show you how much excess nitrate the food has, compared to how much it should have!
We often hear about drinking more water in warmer months, but this should be all year round. Most health sites recommend drinking 2 litres of water a day.
Water quality detection (TDS Meter) – Test drinking and tap water quality. Find out if water is hard or soft. You can detect tap water contamination, check your filter performance and the quality of water from a well.
Detection of high electromagnetic emission areas – Know if the harmful EMF’s are present from TV’s, routers, smart meters, power lines, etc. Locate “hot” EMF zones in your house. Sometimes moving that couch a couple feet is all it takes to stay safe!
With this smart device, you can take control and protect your children and family, by seeing exactly what’s in your food. Isn’t that incredible? All that in just one gadget!
Soeks Ecovisor F4 is of the highest quality, and RRP £215 (the built-in Dosimeter is really high-end, only the dosimeter device itself would cost £130). The built-in Electromagnetic fields detector is also one of the best on the market.
The Nitrate tester and water hardness/softness testing can have an error level-up to 20% out of 100%. More precise results would only be given in the laboratory, which means that for home/ outdoor use, it is the best device available on the market.
If you think you don’t need all the above features, there will soon be new sister models launching. The Soeks Ecovisor F2 2-in-1 (nitrates tester + water quality) and the Soeks Ecovisor F3 3-in-1 (nitrates tester + dosimeter + water quality).
I hope my tips on protecting my health will be useful and would love to hear about yours. Please leave a comment below and good luck with keeping fit and staying healthy.
