Keeping fit is for me not only about making the effort and going for a run, a swim to a spinning class but also about being confident when doing any sport activities. There are a few things I cannot imagine exercising without, and I am sure that we all have a few of our favourite things we need to make us extra secure during our monthly special times, periods.
I cannot imagine my life without the shock absorber running bra, definitely the best support bra which makes me feel comfortable and extra secure during this time. My breasts are quite large and get so tender during this time, and having a good support sports bra is a must. Another thing that makes my life much easier when exercising is dry shampoo. I hate having greasy hair, and this works like magic. If you have a few grey hair like me, did you know they also make different colours to help you not only to get rid off the greasy look, but to cover the grey too?
Some people stop exercising because of periods, but I am not one of them. I hate having leaks and would always wear black underwear and black shorts or tights. I don’t think having a period should stop women from exercising and love the concept of DiaryDoll, the new underwear range created by TV presenter Carol Smillie and tennis star Annabel Croft, aimed at ending the misery of embarrassing leaks during periods.
They are pretty pants with a secret waterproof panel that provides a little extra protection during that time of the month, particularly useful when playing sport or working out. DiaryDolls, which are breathable, washable and look and feel just like normal underwear, have been given the stamp of approval by Scotland’s national netball team The Thistles.
They’re also great for those experiencing pelvic floor weakness, common in post maternity and the third trimester of pregnancy.
The DiaryDoll concept began as a discussion between Carol and Annabel, who have been friends for many years, when Carol was buying cheap throwaways as “period pants” for her teenage daughters. Discussion turned to Annabel’s early years as a junior tennis player. At the time she suffered with endometriosis and struggled with heavy periods from the age of 15 while staying with host families around the world. This wasn’t helped by having to play tennis in a short white skirt. Carol and Annabel realised there was an opportunity to create pants for the times when normal sanitary protection just isn’t enough.
DiaryDoll began with the aim of offering a little more protection to those with heavy periods or for young girls getting their periods for the first time but are now also proving popular with women who want extra confidence during sport.
Available in three colours; baby pink, jet black or dotty blue, each pair comes beautifully presented in its own little fabric pouch, ideal for discretely storing in school bags, sports kit overnight bags or even as a gift. DiaryDolls retail for £14.99 and are available direct from www.diarydoll.com.
